Why Use Herbal Dietary Supplements
It is much more reasonable to take steps to prevent diseases from arising at all than to treat a specific disease with drugs or individual herbs. A good start can be a change in our lifestyle (e.g., quitting smoking, reducing excessive alcohol consumption), consuming a balanced, healthy, and regular diet, and increasing physical activity. However, in this day and age, that is not enough; we must supply our body with nutrients that have a beneficial effect on our health and thus help it heal itself naturally – then we will be healthy again and stay healthy.
Nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and trace elements found in some foods and in many traditional Chinese herbs with stimulating effects prevent the accumulation of free radicals or remove them after they are formed. Traditional Chinese herbs often have strong antioxidant properties. They can thus prevent or reverse the situations described above. Well-known nutrients that have these properties include certain vitamins (A, C, E, etc.) and minerals (e.g., selenium, germanium) contained in fruits and vegetables.
Current science and experts in the field of TCM also point to other beneficial tonic effects of traditional Chinese herbs – immunoregulation, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-sclerotic, beneficial for low blood pressure, hypoglycemic (lowering blood sugar), hypolipemic, liver-protecting, slowing monoamine oxidase (improving memory), anti-tumor, anti-mutagenic, and antimicrobial (especially anti-viral). But only on the condition that they are high-quality, correctly prepared (extracted), and the products made from them follow traditional recipes. Only then can these herbs or foods help us stabilize body functions and significantly improve our health.
Greater responsibility for maintaining one's health will be increasingly associated with the current lifestyle in society. Rising health system costs, the state of public finances, and the necessity of systemic change in the approach to health financing by residents will be the reason. In the future, high-quality dietary supplements with health claims or based on tradition will also be an integral part of "maintaining health". There are already numerous studies stating that a high-quality dietary supplement will be an integral part of the daily diet.
